Large Boston Public Garden Sketchbook: Mothers and children in the park. Artist: Maurice Brazil Prendergast (American, St. John's, Newfoundland 1858-1924 New York). Dimensions: 14 1/8 x 11 3/16 in. (35.8 x 28.4 cm). Date: 1895-97.
One of the largest and most highly finished watercolors in the Public Garden Sketchbook, this characteristic image recalls the informal family portraits of William Merritt Chase, an older contemporary who also took many of his subjects from leisurely activity in city parks and along the seashore.
