On the Beach, Sunset. Artist: Eugène Boudin (French, Honfleur 1824-1898 Deauville). Dimensions: 15 x 23 in. (38.1 x 58.4 cm). Date: 1865.
Boudin's masterful and convincing representation of light effects, such as the sunset in this picture of 1865, profoundly influenced the young Claude Monet. The two artists worked together on the Normandy coast the previous summer. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
